South African golfer Ernie Els. "He did a clinic at Wentworth [England], and I went to it when I was seven or eight. I've still got the picture with him. There was just something about Ernie that I loved. I tried to copy his swing when I was little, and when I got out on tour and actually met him, it was even better. He was so kind to me. He completely lived up to being my hero as a kid." (nytimes.com, 07 Jul 2021)

General Interest

General
OLYMPIC MEDAL INSPIRATION
He says that British golfer Justin Rose winning gold at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro inspired him to compete and aim for a medal at the 2020 Games in Tokyo. "What came from that was the surprise of how proud Justin was and the emotions he felt from winning. He spoke to me about it a lot. I just think it was really cool like seeing his face light up and hearing him talk about how he felt about not only competing in Olympics but being an Olympic gold medallist. You're not just playing as an individual [at the Olympic Games], you're playing for the nation. I don't think we would see that as pressure. We would see that as a proud moment and something that we're really, really excited about. To have a chance to compete for an Olympic medal and to be among the very few special athletes whom can call themselves Olympians is almost every sports person's dream. To say it's an honour to represent my nation at the Olympic Games is an understatement." (theguardian.com, 06 Jul 2021; bt.com, 06 Jul 2021)

GOLF ACADEMY
In May 2019 he launched the Tommy Fleetwood Golf Academy to help children become involved in golf and to widen the appeal of the sport. The first academy was held at Formby Hall Golf Resort in Liverpool, England. (tommyfleetwood.com, 11 Jan 2021)
