She watched her brother play football at East Bentleigh Junior Soccer Club in Australia, and began playing herself at age six. (miniroos.com.au, 01 Jan 2014; thefootballsack.com.au, 14 Oct 2012)

"I would always follow my brother around so when he eventually joined our local club in East Bentleigh, naturally I went with him. He'd be out there training while I'd be running up and down the sidelines, showing off in front of the parents and shouting, 'Look at what I can do, I can do it better than the boys'. I think eventually they got fed up of me and threw me in with the boys to see how I got on. I don't even think I knew the rules properly, I was just running around like a headless chicken, but I remember feeling like this was exactly where I needed to be. From that day, I was hooked." Her childhood friend Charlee West. "I could text her at any point in the day saying that I was heading out to train and regardless of what she was doing, she'd be there in five minutes. She'd come and train with me and would push me as well, even when I had begun to play for the Matildas [Australian women's football team] and she was playing for a local team or wasn't playing at all. I'm so unbelievably grateful for her friendship back then. Without her, I wouldn't have been able to do it, let alone make my senior debut at 15." (arsenal.com, 20 Nov 2020)
:
"The night before a game, I always cook and eat spaghetti bolognese. And then on game day, I usually eat the left over cold pasta, plain. I also listen to a lot of music, but mostly I try to just relax and keep things really normal." (goal-click.com, 01 Jan 2019)
:
"I have a pretty good grip on my relationship with football. I'm so grateful for it and for everything it has brought me. It's my passion, my favourite thing in the world to do and it also happens to be my career. I'm so incredible lucky to be able to do what I love every single day. But I'm also very aware that it's a short career, it's not a forever identity or something I can always lean on. So I have a relationship and an understanding with football that I will give it absolutely everything I have right now because it could be over in the blink of an eye, or five or six more years." She was included as one of the cover athletes for the FIFA 16 video game, which was the first edition in the video game franchise to include female footballers and teams. She appeared on the Australian cover alongside Lionel Messi and Tim Cahill. "Getting this recognition from EA Sports and FIFA fans for all our hard work is a great step forward for women's football on both a local and global scale. I've always been a huge FIFA fan and knowing that I will be playable in the game, as well as being on the cover alongside Lionel Messi, is a career highlight for me." (easports.com, 09 Jul 2015)
