MOVE TO EUROPE
During a family vacation to Europe in her junior year of high school, she was offered a trial by French club Olympique Lyonnais. Her father was initially against the idea of her living abroad at such a young age, as he wanted her to attend college in the US. She was allowed to travel to France for the trial, which ended with the offer of a contract. "I wanted to play overseas. It had always been a dream of mine. I ended up saying no to Lyon because I wanted to finish high school, but the idea of playing overseas was still in the back of my mind." After making a verbal commitment to attend the University of North Carolina in 2012 during her senior year of high school, Paris Saint-Germain offered her a professional contract which she signed in January 2013. (oregonlive.com, 29 Apr 2016; ussoccer.com, 05 Dec 2015; 05 Feb 2016)

WANTING TO QUIT
Speaking in 2021, she revealed she had considered giving up football while she was contracted to Paris Saint-Germain in France. She claimed she was persistently bullied and body shamed by the coaching staff at the club over her weight. "In France, that was the number one time that I felt like I wanted to quit soccer. I was not enjoying myself and there was just so much wrong being done, that I lost the love for the game." (goal.com, 20 Mar 2021)
