MOVE TO ENGLAND
In January 2021 she relocated from the United States of America to England to join Women's Super League [WSL] side Manchester City. "It was a new opportunity and a way to grow, maybe just learn some new things that I wasn't accustomed to. I stepped out of my comfort zone in every way, personally, socially. In every facet of my life. During times of change and adversity, I think you grow a lot as a person. And so I saw it as a chance to keep evolving my game and to grow and learn new things." (tokyo2020.org, 09 Apr 2021)

ILLNESS
She developed sepsis in late 2016 after an injured toe on her right foot became infected. The infection later spread to her leg and required surgery. She remained in hospital for over one month and received intravenous antibiotics to fight the infection. Her right leg also suffered from atrophy [muscle wasting], but she returned to competition in April 2017. "Anytime there's an injury, you wonder, 'Am I going to be the same player?' or, 'Was that it?' But this injury was different. I was just thankful to still have my leg. To be alive, and all that. It was a really humbling experience." (sfchronicle.com, 21 Dec 2018)
