Tokyo will be Hungary's first Olympic appearance in women's team sabre, and they secured their spot at the 2020 Games as the top-ranked European nation outside the world's top four teams.

Hungary have contested the event at 18 editions of the world championships, but have never won a gold medal. They took silver behind the Russian Federation at the 2002 World Championships in Lisbon, and three years later they added their only other medal on the world stage, a bronze, at the 2005 edition in Leipzig.

It is a similar story at continental level for the Hungarians. They have won two medals at the European championships since 2002, both silver, including finishing in the runners-up spot behind the Russian team at the 2019 edition of the tournament in Dusseldorf.
