His mother Reka represented Romania in fencing. She won team foil bronze and team foil silver at the 1992 and 1996 Olympic Games respectively. His father Vilmos also represented Romania in the sport, winning bronze in team sabre at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. He has also coached the German men's sabre team.
