RIO DISAPPOINTMENT
In 2020 he said he remained disappointed with his performance at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, where he lost 15-11 in the first round of the individual sabre event to Matyas Szabo of Germany. "I have been thinking about this since 2016 because I worked hard to get to the [2016] Olympics and I gave it away easily. I am still upset about it. I would not be so upset if I had lost 15-14. Therefore, I am trying to be a more worthy representative of Iran at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. I had the motivation four years ago [in 2016] but I did not have the experience I do now."
