"My father was a rider and I always had horses or ponies around. I didn't love it that much when I was a kid because I wasn't very good at it. It wasn't until I was about 14 or 15 that I actually started to win some prizes and I thought, 'This is pretty cool actually'."

General Interest

General
MOVE TO EUROPE
He relocated to Europe in 2000, and has spent time living in Sweden, Denmark, Spain, the Netherlands, and Belgium. "Belgium was fun, Spain was fun, but it never felt like home. To me, Scandinavian and New Zealand people are quite similar in how they interact, in their values and in the way they appreciate nature. There's a certain ethic us Kiwis can relate to. I'd decided that if I was going to stay in Europe, I needed to live somewhere that felt like home to me. The people here, they have more time for each other, they are more liberal generally. Even though I've lived more than half my life in Europe, I still very much feel like a Kiwi." (The NZ Team YouTube channel, 07 Dec 2019; horseandponymag.com, 13 Jul 2017; equilifeworld.com, 26 Sep 2016)

STABLES
He and his family spent four-and-a-half years managing the Riders Cup, a training facility that doubles as a jumping competition in Ringsted, Denmark. In 2018 the family moved their business to Skane, Sweden, where they run Jonstorpsgard Showjumping. (Facebook page, 30 Jul 2020; horseandponymag.com, 13 Jul 2017)
