FUTURE PLANS
He hopes to compete at the Olympic Games in both 2020 and 2024. "After I lost my horse Lady Cracotte in 2018 in an accident in Montpellier [France], it made me regroup and think of my family and put a plan in place for when my competitive career comes to an end. My plan now is to rebuild my team of horses, focus on coaching my clients and continue to develop and strengthen my business. I've had a good career over the last 20 years but I'd like to do two more Olympic Games. I've kind of had it in my head that I'd ride until 2024. I'll be 45 then and that'll be a nice time to go. I respect the guys who ride in their fifties and sixties but I don't think that's for me." (fei.org, 09 Oct 2019; grandprix-replay.com, 06 Nov 2018)

STABLES
He runs Karlswood Stables in Tara, Ireland. He has also spent time coaching in the United States of America during the northern hemisphere winter, and has a base near Frankfurt, Germany. "We have so many facets at Karlswood Stables, and I'm involved in managing people, trading and so many different things." (horsesport.com, 06 Jul 2020; fei.org, 09 Oct 2019; theirishfield.ie, 23 Apr 2018)

ATHLETE REPRESENTATIVE
In September 2018 he was named athlete representative on the jumping committee of the International Equestrian Federation [FEI]. He resigned from the role in September 2019. "I decided to step down from the role to focus on other activities as I felt I wasn't making an impact. Also, given my business, personal commitments and my own career, it is probably something that I entered too soon, but would be interested in doing later in life, when I have more time."
