General Interest

General
LONG INTERNATIONAL BREAK
Prior to her selection to represent Ireland at the 2019 Nations Cup event in Aachen, Germany, her last appearance for the Irish national team had come 14 years earlier at the 2005 European Championships in Hagen, Germany. She became a mother to her sons Jake and Archie during her break from the sport, and also bred her own horse called Sambuca. "I always knew Sambuca was a special horse so I've been waiting for her. After Archie was born I was back in the saddle three weeks later. There is time pressure [on starting a family], which I'm sure other women in sport and women in general feel, and so there came a point where I had to choose what was more important. Horses mean a lot to me, but they are not everything and of course I was scared, as I'm sure every new mother is, but it changes your life and it changes your life for the better." (horseandhound.co.uk, 17 Jul 2019; horsesportireland.ie, 10 Jul 2019; eurodressage.com, 23 Mar 2019)

COACH
She has served as high performance dressage coach of Ireland's U25 dressage team, starting her role in 2011. (Connolly's Red Mills YouTube channel, 08 Jun 2017)

MENTOR
Early in her career she spent time training with Reiner Klimke in Germany. (redmills.co.uk, 04 Jun 2004)
