General Interest

General
New Zealand have competed in both editions of the Olympic Games to have featured women's team pursuit. They won the final for fifth place against the Netherlands at London 2012, having also recorded the fifth-fastest times in qualification and the first round. Four years later at Rio 2016, the New Zealanders were fourth-quickest in the first round and progressed to the bronze medal race. However, they missed the podium after finishing nearly four seconds behind the Canadian team.

The New Zealanders have won one silver medal and four bronze at the world championships since 2009. They lost the gold medal final to Great Britain in 2009, when the event was contested in teams of three over 3000m, while the team's most recent podium finish was a bronze at the 2019 World Championships in Pruszkow. On that occasion, they triumphed over Canada by almost four seconds in the bronze medal final. New Zealand could only record the sixth-fastest time in the first round at the most recent edition of the tournament in 2020, and did not progress to the medal finals.
