"In my third year [at university], in order to pass an exam, I tried shot put in athletics. It worked well, I became the champion of Dagestan. Then I went to the Russian championships and I realised that the sport required a certain weight. During training, I gained extra kilos, and they recommended that I start boxing to lose weight. I signed up to a school where the only coach who trained girls at that time was Alexei Shakhsinov. Shakhsinov convinced me that boxing was the sport for me.
