He suffered a torn ligament in his hand before the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, QLD, Australia. After receiving an injection to compete at the Games he went on to win silver in the flyweight category. In May 2018 he had one more bout which took place at the National Elites event in Castlebar, Ireland, where the injury flared up again, requiring surgery. He returned to competition in March 2019, but suffered a fractured foot in June that year during a training camp causing him to miss the 2019 European Games in Minsk, Belarus.
