Beach Volleyball - Team Sude/Borger

Karla Borger and Julia Sude met as children, playing together on the sand while Borger's mother and Sude's father competed in beach volleyball tournaments. They played together at youth level, including at the 2009 U23 European Championships where they won bronze, and featured together once in 2013 before pairing up regularly in 2019 after Borger's partnership with Margareta Kozuch ended and Sude split with Leonie Kortzinger.

Tokyo is Borger's second Olympic Games and Sude's first. At the 2016 Games in Rio, Borger and her former teammate Britta Buthe were eliminated by Brazilian duo Larissa Franca and Talita Antunes in the round of 16.

Borger and Sude's debut World Tour season in 2019 yielded one podium finish, a bronze in Kuala Lumpur. In 2020 they secured their first Tour title when they beat US duo Brooke Sweat and Kerri Walsh to gold in Qinzhou, People's Republic of China. At their first world championships together in 2019 they were eliminated in the round of 16 by Barbara Seixas and Fernanda Alves of Brazil.
