General
COMEBACK
She retired from the sport in 2013 and focused on her career with the police and her family life, becoming a mother of twins in 2016. She returned to the sport in 2017 when she joined forces with Madelein Meppelink. "I never completely lost my love for beach volleyball. I was able to rest at the peak of my 15-year playing career. Now I am feeling better than when I stopped in 2013. Beach volleyball is truly an adventure sport, which makes you even better as you grow older. The longer you do it, the more you will see the game. I was motivated to start over and I have a lot of confidence in my partnership with Madelein." (womensportreport.com, 08 Nov 2017; ed.nl, 17 Jun 2018)

SWITCH
Before her break she played as a blocker, but since she teamed up with Madelein Meppelink, she became a defender. "I always saw myself as a defender. I was never at my best as a blocker and I said to myself that I would only return if I was a defender and if I had the best blocker in front of me - and that's Madelein in my opinion. She's such a hard worker and an inspirational player." (beachmajorseries.com, 22 Feb 2018)

MOTHERHOOD
She had twins in 2016 and believes motherhood has made her a better player. "The children make me much more aware of what I am working for. I'm not going to an international tournament to finish in 25th place, because then it almost feels like I was away from home for a week for nothing. I used to be a talented player, but not really a hard worker. Since I became a mother, I have also become a hard worker. I am convinced that I am a better volleyball player because I am a mother, and that I am a better mother now that I play volleyball again." (dela.nl, 2018; ed.nl, 17 Jun 2018)

OTHER STUDIES
She has a master's degree in criminal investigation. (beachmajorseries.com, 22 Feb 2018)
