"At first I played classic [indoor] volleyball, and only at age 15 coach Dmitry Fedotov suggested that we additionally play beach volleyball in the summer. At first, I somehow did not think that it would be so serious. It was all quite fun and enjoyable. We played for the Central Federal District [of the Russian Federation]. In the winter, I continued again to play indoor volleyball. And only at about 17 years old I switched completely to beach volleyball and began to play regularly for the junior [Russian] team."
