He had doubts about whether he could make a career out of beach volleyball until he won the 2006 world U21 title alongside Pedro Solberg in Myslowice, Poland. "Before that, I saw myself opening a legal office with my brother, but after that I was sure that I could be among the best in the world and I decided to carry on." "Beach volleyball has very specific characteristics with which Brazilians can identify. It's a cool sport to watch, always played in beautiful places, always connected to happiness and good vibrations, the sun, even the energy of the people. It's a sport that thousands of people play for fun, and that anyone can play, it's not just a sport for giants." (acritica.uol.com.br, 10 Feb 2016)

General
PARTNERSHIP
He began playing alongside Evandro in February 2019. "Playing next to Evandro interests me a lot, seeing the sort of player he has become. We have what it takes to be a very competitive team, that's what I'm interested in. We need to work hard to make things happen." He parted ways with Alison in 2018 after the pair claimed gold at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. "Our post-Olympic campaign was difficult. I think it was a reasonable decision to end the partnership, so as to not spoil everything we achieved. We won everything together and now life goes on. Our four years together were wonderful, that's the truth. I won everything alongside him. If I'm not grateful for it or happy with it, with what would I be?" (globoesporte.globo.com, 08 Jun 2018; voleidepraia.cbv.com.br, 01 Dec 2019; lance.com.br, 10 Feb 2019)

HEIGHT
Despite measuring 185cm, he has become one of the world's most successful beach volleyball players. "Since I began, I struggled with breaking the barrier of being short and I always pushed myself in everything I did. I knew that I had to serve well, dig the ball well, pass very well. I had to be a very complete player because of my short stature. I think that these days people have stopped making fun of me. In the beginning I heard some mean things, but I brushed them off. It's normal to break barriers, I like it." (sportv.globo.com, 04 May 2015)
