Les Braqueuses [The Robbers].

General
France qualified for their fourth Olympic Games by winning all three group matches against Australia, Puerto Rico and Brazil at the 2020 Olympic Qualifying Tournament on home soil in Bourges.

At the 2016 Olympic Games, they posted wins over Turkey, Belarus and Brazil in the group phase alongside defeats to Japan and Australia. But after overcoming Canada in the quarterfinals in Rio, France succumbed to eventual champions the United States of America in the semifinals and went on to lose the bronze medal match 70-63 to Serbia. Four years earlier, France had reached the final of the 2012 Olympic Games in London after a semifinal win over the Russian Federation, but were comprehensively beaten 86-50 in the final by the US team.

At the World Cup [formerly the world championship], France's only medal is a bronze at the 1953 edition in Santiago, Chile. They have exited the tournament at the quarterfinal stage at all five editions between 2002 and 2018, including at the hands of Belgium in 2018.

At continental level the French team lost five EuroBasket finals in a row from 2013 to 2021, on three occasions to Spain and twice to Serbia. At the 2021 edition they were defeated 63-54 by the Serbians. They have won gold at the competition twice, in 2009 and on home soil in 2001.
