General Interest

General
HERITAGE
Born and raised in the United States of America, she has Puerto Rican roots on her mother's side with her grandparents living in Ponce. In March 2019 she expressed her wish to play for the Puerto Rican national team and was able to make her debut later that year. "It meant a lot to me to play with the Puerto Rico team. I was able to represent my Puerto Rican roots, the island, my family and, of course, my team. I was able to represent something bigger than myself, which was a great honour for me." (elvocero.com, 16 Dec 2019; abqjournal.com, 10 Mar 2019)

SIGN LANGUAGE
She is fluent in American Sign Language [ASL], which she learnt from her parents. "They are both deaf and I also have other relatives who are deaf. Sign language was my first language. My parents were born deaf and that is the language spoken in my house. Someday when I finish my basketball career, I would love to work with children. I work in a school for the deaf when I am at home [in New Mexico] and I love working with children. One of my dreams one day is to open a recreation centre for children who want to be active and play sports, and I would also love to offer American Sign Language classes for children and the general public, so that in this way, it can help close the gap between deaf and hearing people, so that everyone feels included." (elvocero.com, 16 Dec 2019)

FURTHER EDUCATION
In 2019 she graduated with a degree in sports management from Wichita State University in the United States of America. "When I first started out, I wanted to be a physical therapist, but I changed because sports management is more about the behind-the-scenes of sports. I wanted to stay in the sports industry whenever I'm done playing because it's something I enjoy." (abqjournal.com, 10 Mar 2019)
