General Interest

General
HYPNOSIS
He has found that regular hypnosis has benefited his basketball career. "I have been using hypnosis for years as a process of relaxation, to clear my head, leave my mind blank and visualise the right path. In sports there are times when you are mentally blocked. You get into that situation when you constantly think about failure, pain, and what bothers you. Hypnosis helped me unlock. The image of an elite athlete is that of a guy in a bubble, but we are not free from problems and difficult times, on and off the court. Psychological help is necessary." (elpais.com, 12 Feb 2020)

NBA DRAFT
He was selected in the first round, 24th pick overall, by the Phoenix Suns in the 2007 NBA Draft. He was immediately traded to the Portland Trail Blazers, where he played between 2008 and 2011. He also represented the Denver Nuggets before returning to Spain to sign for Real Madrid in 2012. (realmadrid.com, 01 Sep 2019; reuters.com, 29 Jun 2007)

SOCIAL COMMITMENT
He and his sister head the Rudy Fernandez Foundation, which aims to use sport as a tool of education and social awareness. He has also served as an ambassador to other youth development programmes and participated in the 'Let's Stop Poverty' and 'Because We're Girls' projects. (fundacionrudyfernandez.org, 01 Jan 2016)

OTHER ROLES
He is partner of a restaurant in Madrid, Spain, alongside Spanish basketball player Pau Gasol and Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal. He also runs a basketball training camp for children in Pollenca, Spain. (campusrudyfernandez.com, 11 Jul 2020; vanitatis.elconfidencial.com, 05 May 2020)
