His professional career began in 2001 when he was signed as a free agent by MLB side Pittsburgh Pirates. He joined the Atlanta Braves in November 2007 and played at AA and AAA level before making his MLB debut in 2009. He played for the Cleveland Indians and Chicago Cubs in 2012, and the Baltimore Orioles in 2013. After briefly playing in the Korean Baseball League with Kia Tigers in 2014, he had two spells in the Mexican Baseball League and played in the 2020/21 Dominican Winter League with Tigres del Licey.
