"I want to play hard every day for my team, I'm not going to back down from anything. It's sliding hard, not to hurt someone but to disrupt a double play. It's taking the extra base so you get into scoring position for the guy behind you. When I'm on first and a ball is hit into the gap, I'm going to bust it. My whole thought is to get home. It's how I was taught to play the game, and it's kind of stuck with me." (latimes.com, 07 Mar 2017)

CLUB JOURNEY
He was selected by the Washington Nationals in the third round of the 2008 MLB Draft as the 87th overall pick. He progressed through the Nationals' minor league system as a shortstop, but was moved to second base when he reached the majors. He made his MLB debut in September 2010, and in 2011 and 2012 played over 300 games for the Nationals. Apart from a half-season in Triple-A in 2013, he remained in the majors with the Nationals through the 2016 season before playing for the Los Angeles Angels, Seattle Mariners and Tampa Bay Rays in 2017. In 2018 and 2019 he returned to Triple-A under four different MLB organisations, and in 2021 signed for Mexican Baseball League team Acereros de Monclova. TIMING ISSUES
In 2017, when playing for the Los Angeles Angels, he said his biggest technical batting challenge was getting his front foot down quickly enough for his upper and lower body to synchronise in his swing. "Being so tall [in his stance], I think I was struggling to get on time consistently. When you're late, you tend to over-swing to try to catch up." (latimes.com, 07 Mar 2017)

PODCAST HOST
He has been one of three co-hosts of the 'Connected by Seams' podcast, interviewing guests from the sport, entertainment and business industries. (Instagram profile, 09 May 2021)
