She began playing at age seven at the Granite Club in Toronto, ON, Canada. (bwfbadminton.com, 15 Mar 2020)
:
"I played a lot of sports when I was young. My mother introduced me to the sport [badminton] along with tennis, swimming and basketball. At around age 13 my parents told me I could keep playing lots of sports or pick one and really be fully dedicated at it, so I chose badminton as I liked it the most. I started training competitively when I was 13 and started playing in national tournaments. What I like about the sport is that there is so many aspects to the game, to be a good player you have to be strong, explosive, have good speed, mental strength, technique, skill, flexibility. There are so many aspects to be a good player that it never gets boring in training. To be at the top there are a lot of different styles considering your body type and what your strengths are. To be the best in the world you could be six feet or four feet tall, it doesn't matter." (bwfbadminton.com, 15 Mar 2020; SportVideos YouTube channel, 11 Jan 2020; olympic.ca, 17 Feb 2019)
