General Interest

General
France secured their spot at Tokyo 2020 via the 2021 World Relays, where they qualified for the final to book their ticket to Tokyo. They went on to finish last out of the eight teams in the final.

Tokyo is France's seventh Olympic appearance since their debut in 1972 in Munich, where they placed fourth. Their best result since then is a fifth-place finish at the 2012 Games in London. At Rio 2016 the French team did not make the final and were originally ranked 10th, but they were later promoted to ninth following the retrospective disqualification of Ukraine.

France have claimed a single medal at the world championships, winning bronze in 2013. At the 2019 edition they clocked the 12th-fastest time in the heats and did not make the final. They have had more success at the European championships, winning one gold medal [2014] and three silver at consecutive editions of the tournament from 2012 to 2018.
