General Interest

General
Poland are making their 12th Olympic appearance in Tokyo, having qualified via the world rankings for their seventh consecutive Games since 1996.

Poland first contested the men's 4x440m relay at the 1964 Games in Tokyo. They won their only Olympic medal in the event, a silver, at Montreal 1976 where they finished nearly three seconds behind the United States of America and just over half a second ahead of the Federal Republic of Germany. Since then Poland have regularly qualified for the Olympic final but have never finished ranked higher than sixth, which they have achieved on three occasions.

Poland have fared better at the world championships. They crossed the line second at the 1999 edition but were later promoted to first following the disqualification of the US team for an anti-doping violation. They also boast three bronze medals at the tournament but have not finished on the podium since 2007. The Polish team did not take part in the 2019 World Championships in Gwangju.

At the World Relays they just missed out on a berth in the final at the 2021 edition, finishing ranked ninth after the heats.
