General Interest

General
Germany's first Olympic appearance in the men's 4x400m relay came at the 1928 Games in Amsterdam, where they won silver behind the United States of America. Germany secured bronze on home soil in 1936, and finished third again at the 1952 Games in Helsinki. Over the next 40 years the Unified Team of Germany, the Federal Republic of Germany, and the German Democratic Republic would all win Olympic medals in the event.

Germany have failed to return to the Olympic podium since reunification and have only made the final once in five appearances since 1992, finishing seventh in Athens in 2004. The German team did not take part in the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro. They qualified for Tokyo via the world rankings.

At the world championships Germany's sole medal is a bronze at the 1993 edition in Stuttgart. The team did not compete at the three editions of the tournament from 2015 to 2019. At the World Relays they failed to make the final in all four attempts from 2015 to 2021.
