Colombia made their first appearance at the Olympic Games at Rio 2016. The team were ranked 11th overall after finishing sixth in their heat.
The Colombian team competed at the world championships for the first time in 2017 in London, where they finished ranked 12th. Two years later in Doha they qualified for the final as the fourth-fastest team from the heats. They also placed fourth in the final, 0.72s behind bronze medallists Belgium, and set national records in both their heat and the final.
The Colombians are the reigning Pan American Games champions, having beaten the United States of America and Trinidad and Tobago to gold at the 2019 Games in Lima. They also won gold at the 2019 South American Championships, edging out Brazil by just 0.09s.
