SANCTION
In September 2020 he received a two-year suspension from the World Athletics Disciplinary Tribunal after a sample he provided at a competition in Minsk, Belarus, in September 2019 tested positive for the prohibited substance furosemide. His period of ineligibility was dated from the start of his provisional suspension on 28 October 2019 and was due to end on 27 October 2021. In his defence, he had written to the Athletics Integrity Unit [AIU] claiming that he had not ingested the substance knowingly, and could have done so accidentally as his grandmother was taking furosemide for medical reasons. In May 2021 a World Anti-Doping Agency [WADA] technical letter was introduced that related to minimum reporting levels of certain diuretics, including furosemide. In light of this, in June 2021 he applied for a review of his case to the AIU. The AIU decided to reduce his suspension so that he became eligible to return to competition with immediate effect.
