Her twin sister Myke has also represented the Netherlands in athletics, and the pair have competed against each other in heptathlon. "One year, I do slightly better; the other, Myke. I'd rather see my sister win than some other competitor. Whether consciously or unconsciously, you always have your sister in the back of your mind. Physically, Myke's strongest qualities are that she is fast and explosive so the 200m, hurdles and long jump go well for her. I admire her perseverance and enthusiasm and that she is always there at big races. There really is never any 'positive' jealousy. I really want her [to do well] and I know [it's the same] the other way around. Sometimes it can be a bit distracting that during a competition you are very busy with the other person. If she puts in a bad performance, I'm very upset about that for her too, so it can sometimes distract you from your own performance.
