In March 2019 she injured her big toe joint and required surgery. She was unable to run for three months, and then spent a further five months building up her training. She returned to competition in February 2020. (wattbike.com, 04 Sep 2019; theislandonline.com.au, 07 Feb 2020; 7news.com.au, 07 Feb 2020; nswathletics.org.au, 30 Dec 2019)

In late 2014 she suffered a foot injury that left her using crutches and wearing a protective boot for one month. (annierubie.wordpress.com, 10 Dec 2015)

At the end of 2011 she suffered a 17-centimetre tear in her right hamstring, which stopped her running for three months. (suac.org, 31 Dec 2011; runnerstribe.com, 30 Mar 2013)

"I always loved running when growing up, and I particularly loved beating the boys in beach sprints at my local nippers [children's surf life saving club] every Sunday. I saw an ad on TV for Little Athletics and signed up immediately. It took me a while to find my feet on the track but as soon as I saw Cathy Freeman win the 400m gold medal [at the 2000 Olympic Games] in Sydney I knew what I wanted to do." General Interest

General
400M FOR TOKYO
She has specialised in both the 400m and 800m, but decided to focus on the 400m ahead of the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. She said the opportunity to also compete in the women's 4x400m relay influenced her decision. "The 400m is very much the focus this year [2020] rather than the 800m. It's just too tempting with the relay team, the potential that we [Australia] have. We can certainly make the final in Tokyo and if everyone is in their best shape we've run the time before that could get us a medal. That's obviously a far goal but you never know what could happen." (7news.com.au, 07 Feb 2020; theislandonline.com.au, 07 Feb 2020)

OTHER ACTIVITIES
She has worked as a certified personal trainer and as a social media assistant. In 2018 she and fellow Australian athlete Ella Nelson launched the Shooting Stars Academy, a training camp for children in Sydney, NSW, Australia. (LinkedIn profile, 01 Jan 2015; annelieserubie.com, 17 Aug 2018)
