He was involved in rugby league, football, and swimming when he was younger, but switched to athletics after breaking his collarbone. "I was always pretty active, I'd ride five kilometres to and from school every day. I played a bit of soccer and did competitive swimming and athletics but footy [rugby league] was the main sport we played. Because I was the big kid they said, 'Here, throw this', so I did and used to throw it over the teachers' heads. I enjoyed it so much. I like the technical mastery of discus and challenge of mastering a throw." General Interest

General
FOCUS ON DISCUS
Despite winning silver in hammer throw at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, QLD, Australia, he decided to switch is focus to discus and consistently threw 65m in the event in 2019 and 2020. "With discus you don't reach your maximum strength or potential until you've had over 10 years of training, because it has such a high strength and power component which takes a long time to accumulate." (athletics.com.au, 03 Nov 2020)

OLYMPIC DREAM
Having made his Olympic debut at age 20 at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro, he has set his sights on competing at a total of five Olympic Games. "I always wanted to make five Olympics when I was younger, and I still do. I made Rio when I was pretty young, if I make Tokyo I'll be going as a 25-year-old. I worked out that if I make my fifth Olympics it could be a home Games for me [with the Australian Olympic Committee interested in hosting the 2032 Games]." (athletics.com.au, 03 Nov 2020)
