He injured his shoulder after diving to cross the finish line to win bronze in the 400m at the 2019 European Indoor Championships in Glasgow, Scotland. "Without that injury I would have come fourth. 400M SPECIALIST
He competes in both the 400m and 800m, but says he finds the 400m easier tactically. "I like a lot of things about both distances. The 400m is short and spectacular, and the 800m has many tactical aspects. I myself specialise in both, with more recent success in the 400m [speaking in early 2020]. In the 400m it is a hard but controlled start and then a fight to the finish. I don't have the power to open like a sprinter, so I need a good middle and last stretch. I often try to chase in the 800m, but when I follow, I run much more economically. The speed of the first 600 metres is never a problem for me. The most important thing is that I still have energy left for the last 200 metres. The 800m can go wrong sometimes. This is because I speed up too easily and misjudge it. This happens less often in the 400m. My favourite distance is actually the 600m." (hardloopnetwerk.nl, 23 Feb 2020)
