A friend encouraged her to take up athletics by joining the Zenith Athletic Club. "I played netball. It just wasn't for me. I couldn't handle jumping around on a court for an hour plus. And then tennis. I always had problems with my swings and the coach always cursed me out, so I quit that." (IAAF, 01 Sep 2010; ttnaaa.org, 01 Sep 2010)

POST-TOKYO RETIREMENT
In 2020 she said she was considering retirement after the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo in order to focus on her interior design and photography businesses, as well as coaching younger athletes in Trinidad and Tobago. She runs an interior design company called Pure Collected Living based in Florida, United States of America. "I am shifting my focus for a while on how best I can serve the younger athletes, while also working and growing my styling and photography business. I've taken a liking to styling and photographing interiors and hope to establish a career doing so. I always want to give back to the younger athletes at home and I'm in the process of brainstorming ways that I can." (sportsmax.tv, 31 Mar 2020; purecollectedliving.com, 06 Apr 2020)

SANCTION
In April 2013 she tested positive for an unnamed prohibited substance. She served a 16-month suspension until August 2014 when the National Association of Athletics Administrations [NAAA] in Trinidad and Tobago lifted her sanction due to her cooperation with a United States Anti-Doping Agency investigation. However, the International Association of Athletics Federations [IAAF] appealed the lifting of the suspension to the Court of Arbitration for Sport [CAS]. The CAS ruled in Baptiste's favour, and she was able to return to competition in January 2015. The CAS ruling was not made public.
