"A teacher suggested I should come out for the cross-country team. I am not quite sure what made me lace up my shoes and go to practice, but as soon as I agreed to join the team my dad made certain that I was practising every day. I would say that I was a natural from the start." (daynapidhoresky.com, 20 Jan 2020)

BODY IMAGE
She says she regrets worrying about her physical appearance early in her athletics career. "In university I struggled. I was competing in track and field and cross-country and when I looked around it seemed like a lot of the fast girls were very skinny. I started trying to eat less to lose weight with a goal to get faster. I was unhappy and I look back on that time with sadness because I really missed out on life. Now I fuel my body properly so I can run strong and stay injury-free. I eat whole foods, a lot of healthy fats, but I also allow myself to enjoy things like doughnuts once in a while without feeling guilty. It took me a long time to find this balance but I know that to stay in the sport of running you need a strong body, not a starved body, and you can't compare your body to anyone else's. Everyone is different." (solegirls.com, 31 Jul 2017)
