He has acted as a mentor to fellow Canadian high jumper Django Lovett over the years, but the relationship between the pair has had to change as Lovett's performances have improved. "We're very similar. It's easy to be friends. He's done very well and had some huge improvements. Now it's more like a good, healthy competitive vibe [between them]. I want to pass on what I know, but you reach a point, you've got to watch out for yourself and you've got to be competitive. That's what it's about.
