She fractured the fifth metatarsal bone in her right foot and sprained her right ankle in August 2018. The injuries meant she could not train for two months and she missed the 2018 North American, Central American and Caribbean [NACAC] Championships in Toronto, ON, Canada. Since age 12 she has played the guitar and written songs. "I started to kind of vent. I didn't have a horrible childhood, but I didn't have it easy. My dad has an addiction to prescription medication and he's been struggling with that for a while now, so that's where it came from, just writing songs to get my feelings out about that. I kind of used it as music therapy. If I was feeling anything, I could just put it out in a song, and that makes you feel a little bit better.
