He took up running while at Aiyam Day secondary school in Kenya. He later began competing in cross-country running, and took up road running after graduating high school. (mybestruns.com, 25 Jan 2021; medium.com/@EndaRunning, 29 Oct 2018)

He used to run the 24-kilometre round trip to and from school. "I would be forced to take a longer route to escape being attacked by rustlers. It meant increasing my pace to reach school on time. It was good experience for me because it prepared me to become an athlete. It is while in secondary school that I developed interest in athletics. It started as inter-dormitory competitions and I discovered I was good. I also represented my school but I only reached the regional level. My games teacher Maurice Osuma spotted the talent and encouraged me to train harder." (voicedathletics.com, 10 Mar 2021; mybestruns.com, 25 Jan 2021)

Kenyan long-distance runner Geoffrey Kamworor. "I love his running style and how he tackles his races, and he is so versatile, running very well in track, road and cross-country. His videos inspire me and teach me not to give up, but to believe that hard work is the mother of all success." "It all started with discipline, hard work, teamwork, determination, self-sacrifice, and respecting what I do and why I do it. When I'm competing, I forget everything and bring all my thoughts to the race and believe in myself that I can make it." (voicedathletics.com, 10 Mar 2021)

MISSED WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
He was not permitted to compete at the 2019 World Championships in Doha, Qatar, as he had not met an Athletics Integrity Unit [AIU] rule requiring athletes to undergo one in-competition and three out-of-competition doping tests to be eligible for the world championships. He claimed to have not been informed of the rule before signing up to compete in the Kenyan trials for the 2019 World Championships, and that the episode led him to contemplate quitting the sport. "It was painful to miss the world championships especially considering that I was well prepared and I was to make my international debut. It was a bad experience and I am still angry [speaking in September 2020]. It was not my fault though, I was a relatively unknown runner then and I wasn't in the testing pool and nobody expected me to qualify either. It was such a painful experience that I almost quit running, but then I reminded myself that everything happens for a reason, because the incident inspired me to work harder, I eventually started posting good results both in Kenya and abroad."
