He began training in 2014 in Orleans, France. "I started athletics rather late. I always did a lot of sports when I was young, like basketball, judo or swimming. Each one lasted six months, or a year, no more. It was never serious. For athletics, I always ran faster than others at primary school, then high school. So I decided to join the EC Orleans Jules Ferry club, and in my first year, I performed well. It made me want to continue." (athle.fr, 12 Jun 2018)
:
In 2014, a few months after taking up the sport, he took part in his first national championships. He was among the favourites to win the 100m title in his age group, but tripped after the start and ended up finishing fifth. "I thought I was going to win, but I messed up my race. It was really this episode that made me want to continue athletics. I wanted to show that I could compete, that I could run fast. I will always remember that moment." (trackandlife.fr, 12 Jun 2018)
