He says that as a child he had difficulty controlling his temper when he was bullied and racially abused by other children, but found a welcoming community when he began attending after-school sport. "Sometimes it would just turn black and I could do nothing to stop it. They knew which buttons to press. For me, it was just a matter of getting away and getting home from school as soon as possible. But going to after-school sports, I finally got the feeling that the people around me actually wanted me, and that I wanted them. We were all there for the same reason - we loved sports.
