FATHER'S INFLUENCE
His father and coach, Carlos Jose Camilo de Oliveira, represented Brazil in athletics, and had hoped to compete at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles until an injury ruled him out of contention. Paulo Andre says his main goal is to compete at the Olympic Games to fulfil his father's dream. "I'm working so hard to go to the Olympics because it is his dream. My father is an inspiration. He never told me he was an athlete. I discovered it while messing around with his stuff. I didn't even know what his medals meant. We have overcome many challenges together, we have been told the father-son link doesn't work in sports. But we kept going. Now it is our dream, and what we now want most is to go to Tokyo."
