He says he considered retiring from competition in 2018, when after rupturing the Achilles tendon in his right foot, his club B3 Atletismo closed down and he was left unemployed. "We were left without a salary, without support and without treatment for me. We lost everything at once. I thought about stopping, but my wife convinced me not to give up. Tania was very important.
