CHANGE OF RESIDENCE
In late 2019 he decided to move his residence from Badajoz to Soria and change coach in order to increase his chances at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. "I was very comfortable and happy with my coach, but I needed [to train with more high-level] long-distance runners to increase the quality of my trainings, and Soria is the place for it." (eldeportedejaen.com, 06 Jan 2020)

LATE LONDON REPLACEMENT
He was called up to the Spanish squad a week before the start of the 2012 Olympic Games after teammate Angel Mullera was suspended from the team due to allegations of a doping violation. However, he did not compete in London as Mullera won an appeal against his suspension and was reinstated to the Olympic team. "It was quite difficult to accept. When you have something so close, and then it is taken away, it is really hard to deal with. But these things happen in life, they make you more mature. Although it was painful, in the end it made me become even stronger," Martos said. (masdeporte.as.com, 03 Aug 2012; misatletas.blogspot.com.es, 31 Dec 2012)
