General Interest

General
COACH AND FRIEND
He is friends with coach Boris Obergfoll's family, and believes he is similar to Obergfoll when he was competing. "We not only have a working relationship, I also share friendship with the whole Obergfoll family. As an athlete, he was similar to me, which makes a lot of things really easy. He knows which buttons to push to get me moving ahead. Of course, we also have our differences, it's like a marriage at times. But even if it does not go well, you try to make the most out of the situation. I can always rely 100% on him and he on me." (sport.de, 03 Oct 2019)

LOCAL POLITICIAN
In 2019 he was elected to the Offenburg local council as an independent representative. He moved to the region from Dresden in 2014. "I have always been very interested in politics. It's nice not just to experience politics, but to help shape it yourself. I think it is a shame if you only complain and complain but don't want to do anything. Of course I'm inexperienced, but like sport I will give it my all. My quality of life has increased here, it is much more pleasant and I feel comfortable here. Offenburg is and will remain my home. Nothing pulls me back to Dresden." He does not rule out a bigger role in politics once he has ended his sporting career. "I will see how it goes at this level and then take a decision, but it certainly is not something that I would say no to." (fwog.de, 14 May 2019; swr.de, 29 May 2019; bo.de, 13 Dec 2019)
