He started running at age two and took up athletics at age six while growing up in Berlin, Germany. He discovered his talent for 400m in 2011. "As part of an evening sports festival, I ran against a women's 4x100m relay team for fun and without special training. After crossing the finish line overjoyed, and also meeting the criteria for the German championships, I quickly realised that the 400m was my race." (marckoch400.de, 22 Jan 2021)
:
He started running by chasing his older sister around the park on family days out. He was later introduced to an athletics club by a friend. "My passion for running was awakened at the tender age of two, because my big sister was faster than me and I did everything to become faster than her. In the broadest sense, my love for athletics began there. At age three my parents signed me up for a children's activity session at the Reinickendorfer Fuchse sports club. I let off steam there for three years until a school friend took me to athletics training when I was six." (marckoch400.de, 22 Jan 2021)
