ROUGH ROAD TO TOKYO
She admits that she struggled in late 2020 and early 2021 with injury and a bout of COVID-19 that meant she missed training time in the lead-up to the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. "In December [2020] I still didn't know if I would be able to compete in the indoor season. However, at the end of December I managed to get back training. I worked hard in January and it paid off. I was feeling motivated after the [2021] European indoor championships, but after the indoor season I caught coronavirus. It took me off the track. After quarantine, I injured my biceps femoris [hamstring] and I lost two and a half weeks. Then I started to get it together, but it wasn't easy. I had a training camp in Szklarska Poreba [Poland], but the training did not go great. It was far from ideal. It made me sad and I was conflicted in my head. After a while, I realised that I had nothing to lose, and even if I didn't get the results, it would be good training. Eventually things became more promising." (tvp.pl, 21 Jul 2021)
