He trains six times a week, normally twice a day. "Monday, Wednesday, Friday is more difficult sessions like speed work or block work. Tuesday and Thursday are more slow work, like recovery, nothing serious. Maybe pool sessions, slight jogging, stretching. So train smartly, not just hard." (mg.co.za, 30 Aug 2019)

"What propels me to my winning point is hunger and the desire to win. I love winning all the time. The feeling that you get upon winning, you just can't explain, and I don't think there's a person who can take that feeling away from you." (limpopomirror.co.za, 02 Apr 2018)

General Interest

General
IDENTICAL TWIN
He has an identical twin brother, Terrence, who was born first. "My mum says he is older than me but I don't know how she knew because we looked the same. [My brother and I] are really close. We grew up together, doing sport together. My twin brother and I were both very fast. I always used to win the school 200m and my brother the 100m." (worldathletics.org, 16 Jun 2019; Grit Sports YouTube channel, 03 Sep 2018)

MOVING HOME
As a teenager he wanted to work with South African coach Hennie Kriel, so at age 16 he contacted Kriel via Facebook. Kriel agreed to work with him on the condition that he moved the 65 kilometres from Johannesburg, where his family lived, to Pretoria, where Kriel's coaching group is based. "It was a big move. I left my family behind and changed schools. At first my parents were not keen. I went from attending a private school to going to a government school. But I told them that's what I wanted to do. I wanted to pursue a dream and to see where it took me." (worldathletics.org, 16 Jun 2019)

RECORD PREMONITION
In March 2018 he set a South African record of 19.69s in the men's 200m event, and claimed afterwards that he had a premonition about breaking the record prior to the event. "I had a feeling I was going to break the record that same morning. I even have witnesses. I called my mum after the heat [and said], 'Mum, at three o'clock just listen to the news'. She asked why and I said, 'It's going to be a surprise'. Afterwards my mum called me and was like, 'How did you know?' I just had a feeling I was gonna do it that day. I had a feeling that today is the day I'm going to break the record." (mg.co.za, 30 Aug 2019; limpopomirror.co.za, 02 Apr 2018)

AVOIDING 200 METRES IN TRAINING
He says he never runs exactly 200 metres when training, and instead might cover 150 metres to focus on speed, or 250 metres to focus on endurance, rather than the exact race length itself. "You know what the one thing about 200m is? You can't pace yourself. You've got to run from the beginning all the way through. At that level, running with people like [Usain] Bolt, if you try to hold it, they're already gone. As the gun goes, you have to give whatever you have and just hit it." (mg.co.za, 30 Aug 2019)
