She first showed an interest in athletics when she was a child in Kenya, but did not train properly for the marathon until she travelled to Israel in 2008. (haaretz.com,12 Jan 2016)

Reason:

She showed potential in track and field events while growing up in Kenya, but her father would not send her to an athletics training school. However, in 2008 she travelled to Israel for work and met coach Dan Salpeter, whom she is now married to and still trains with. (haaretz.com,12 Jan 2016)

FROM KENYA TO ISRAEL
Born in Kenya, she first went to Israel in 2008 to work as a nanny for a diplomat at the Kenyan embassy. As she was a keen runner, she was introduced to Israeli coach Dan Salpeter and the pair fell in love. When her job working for the Kenyan diplomat finished, she returned to Kenya and later married Dan there before the pair moved back to Israel. They have a son together who was born in Israel. She acquired Israeli citizenship in March 2016 and was cleared by International Association of Athletics Federations [IAAF] to represent Israel from April 2016.
