He combined playing football and doing athletics before focusing on javelin. "Once a coach asked me to throw a football and he was surprised by the distance that I threw it. After a couple of training sessions with him, he invited me to compete in javelin. I won the tournament against all the older guys and, after a while, I went to regional competitions."
