She began experiencing pain in her right knee a month before the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru, which she later discovered was the result of a stress fracture in her shinbone. She was able to compete in Lima, where she won a silver medal, but the effort caused an excess of fluid on her lower right leg.
