EYES ON TOKYO
He says placing sixth in the 50km race walk at the 2019 World Championships in Doha, Qatar, has given him confidence going into the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. "Finishing sixth in Doha definitely improved my mindset for Tokyo. I would have said even going into [the 2016 Games in] Rio that Tokyo was always the bigger goal." He says his goal of a medal in Tokyo is partly inspired by his coach Rob Heffernan, who race walked for Ireland at five editions of the Olympic Games. "Rob knows what it takes from being an athlete. Rob was 35 when he won the world championships and the mid-30s is when you should be challenging for your top results." (bbc.com, 31 Oct 2019)

FURTHER EDUCATION
After he completed a certificate in physiology and health science at the Institute of Technology Carlow in Ireland, he went on to study physiotherapy at Coventry University in England between 2007 and 2009. He then studied for a bachelor's degree in sports performance at Leeds Metropolitan University in England between 2009 and 2011. (frontrowspeakers.com, 01 Aug 2016; LinkedIn profile, 01 May 2020)
